Project description

This production, which was shown in a two-storey tent in the inner courtyard of the Hofburg as part of the Innsbruck International Biennial at the start of March 2016, focuses on the Other, on the world of fairy-tales, monsters and freaks, accompanying its visitors on a journey through time.

In the tradition of classical circus and the fairground, the Forman Brothers operate at the “interface of art and space, reality and fantasy” with the Obludarium (Tereza Kotyk, Franziska Heubacher).
“‘Obluda’ is an old Czech word meaning ‘monstrosity’. In the case of the Forman Brothers, one would be more inclined to translate it as ‘marvellous’. ‘Obludarium’ is one of the most exciting, unusual, poetic and freakiest variety productions of the present day, fêted by viewers and critics all over the world. The twin sons of Miloš Forman, Matěj and Petr, enchant visitors to their small, very idosyncratically constructed tent with fantastic stage characters from alien worlds; creatures capable of things that can be described only inadequately with the word ‘incredible’1
